I never thought I would love a film about ice-skating, and Ice Princess does the sport justice. It is beautifully shot, beautifully acted, but with one flaw, it gets a tad sentimental.A perfectly cast Michelle Trachtenburg is the girl with a dream of becoming an ice-skater, but her strong-willed mother(a moving performance from Joan Cusack) has other ideas. Other notable actors are Kim Catrell and Haydn Pannettiere, who develop a pleasing shine to the film. The script is sharp, that does occasionally get too sentimental, but the tight direction and the spirited performances from all involved, make this a sweet and enjoyable movie, that is an 8.5/10 from me. 'Ice Princess' is good. Nothing more, nothing less. There are enjoyable performances from Michelle Trachtenberg (Casey), Hayden Panettiere (Gen), Kim Cattrall (Tina) and Joan Cusack (Joan - creative!). Even if the latter two's characters are irritating at times, but that is intentional to be fair. There's also an appearance for Erik King, which I guess you could say was a "Surprise!" ...Props are in order for Christophe Beck, who I thought did a top job with the music - all of which suited events very well. The premise, which entails figure skating, is entertaining enough to see unfold. It's nothing special, but is certainly a harmless and fine production from 2005.

This movie is utterly heartwarming in its genuine mother-daughter sweetness. Starring Joan Cusack as Joan Carlyle, Kim Cattrall as Tina Harwood, Michelle Trachtenberg as Casey Carlyle, and Hayden Panettiere as Gen Harwood, this inspirational work suggests honesty over withdrawal when making life's decisions. This concept is far too seldom featured in works aimed at today's children. This work suggests to young ladies that their dreams are important, but that their relationship with their mother should neither be canceled by chasing their dreams, nor get in the way of doing the same. The dialog is hard, while the story itself is genuinely endearing and belongs in any Disney collection. It rates a 7.8/10 from...the Fiend :.
